NBA superstar Kevin Durant has acquired a minority stake in the French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), marking a significant intersection of the basketball and football worlds. The deal, announced Friday, June 20, 2025, sees Durant, through his media and investment company Boardroom Sports Holdings, partner with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the majority shareholder of PSG.

While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the partnership extends beyond a simple investment. Durant will play an active role in PSG's diversification and growth strategy, particularly in the development of the club's brand in the United States and other international markets. He will also offer his expertise on PSG's multi-sport strategy, with a focus on potential future ventures into basketball.

Durant's involvement comes at a time when the NBA is actively exploring the possibility of launching a European league, potentially featuring franchises in major cities like Paris and London. QSI has expressed interest in establishing a basketball franchise in Paris, and Durant's experience and insights could prove invaluable in shaping this ambition.

This isn't Durant's first foray into PSG. He previously had an indirect investment through the private equity firm Arctos Sports Partners. However, this new agreement provides him with a more direct role and influence within the club. As part of the partnership, Boardroom and QSI will collaborate on various commercial, investment, and content creation initiatives.

PSG is already a multi-sport brand with teams in soccer, handball, and judo. The club has ambitions to build a modern sports and entertainment complex, similar to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and Durant's input could extend to advising on this project as well.

"It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain — a club and city that is deeply close to my heart," Durant said in a statement released by PSG. "This club has big plans, and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI."

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Chairman and CEO of PSG, also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. "Together with Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will drive the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and QSI," he stated.

Since 2011, PSG has been majority-owned by QSI, a Qatar government-backed investment fund, holding 87.5% of the shares. Arctos Partners owns the remaining 12.5%. Under QSI's ownership, PSG has become one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, achieving significant success both domestically and in European competitions. The club's strategic vision focuses not only on sporting triumphs but also on community engagement and global brand recognition. With Durant now on board, PSG aims to further solidify its position as a leading force in both the footballing world and the broader sports and entertainment landscape.
