Ex-India Player Argues KL Rahul Faced Unjust Treatment and Scapegoating in Previous Team Selections.

The treatment of KL Rahul in the Indian cricket team has recently sparked debate, with some former players suggesting he has been unfairly treated. This discussion arises as India navigates a transition period, with senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from Test cricket, creating opportunities for others to solidify their positions.

Deep Dasgupta, a former Indian wicketkeeper, has been particularly vocal about what he perceives as the inconsistent handling of Rahul's career. Dasgupta argues that Rahul, who debuted in 2014, has never been given a固定 and well-defined role within the Test side. He has been shuffled around the batting order, asked to open, bat in the middle order, and even keep wickets, depending on the team's needs. This lack of stability, according to Dasgupta, has prevented Rahul from truly establishing himself and showcasing his full potential.

Dasgupta contends that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bears some responsibility for this situation. He believes that Rahul should be given a permanent position and the security of knowing he will be backed in that role. Giving him that security, Dasgupta believes, would allow Rahul to flourish and perform at his best.

Sanjay Manjrekar, another former Indian cricketer, offered a slightly different perspective. While acknowledging Rahul's talent, Manjrekar pointed out that Rahul's numbers in Test cricket have been inconsistent, regardless of his position. He has played 58 Tests, amassing 3257 runs with an average of 33.57, which Manjrekar considers below par for a player of his experience. Manjrekar argues that if Rahul had consistently performed at a high level, averaging, say, 52 as an opener, he would have cemented his place in the team and wouldn't have been moved around.

Despite their differing views, both Dasgupta and Manjrekar agree that Rahul faces a significant opportunity in the upcoming Test series against England. With Rohit Sharma's retirement, a spot has opened up at the top of the order, giving Rahul another chance to establish himself as a Test opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rahul himself has acknowledged the changing landscape of the Indian team. He recognizes the absence of Kohli and Sharma and sees it as a chance for younger players to step up and take on more responsibility. He has also expressed his excitement about Karun Nair's comeback to the team after eight years, praising his resilience and determination.

Rahul's preparation for the England series began immediately after the IPL season, demonstrating his commitment to performing well in Test cricket. He has been working with his coach to prepare for the challenges ahead, focusing on adapting to the English conditions and fine-tuning his technique.

The debate surrounding Rahul's treatment highlights the complexities of team selection and player management. While some believe he has been unfairly treated by being constantly shifted around, others argue that his performances haven't warranted a固定 spot. Regardless of past events, the upcoming Test series against England presents Rahul with a fresh opportunity to silence his critics and prove his worth as a key member of the Indian Test team. His partnership with Jaiswal at the top of the order will be crucial, and his ability to perform consistently will be key to securing his place in the team for the long term.
