Former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi has passed away in London at the age of 77, after suffering a cardiac arrest. The news was confirmed by sources close to the cricketer on June 23, 2025.

Born in Rajkot, Gujarat, on December 22, 1947, Doshi was known for his orthodox spin bowling. He represented India in both Test and One Day International (ODI) formats, leaving a significant mark despite making his international debut relatively late in his career.

Doshi played 33 Test matches for India, securing 114 wickets at an average of 30.71. His economy rate of 2.25 showcased his control and accuracy. His best bowling performance in a Test innings was 6 wickets for 102 runs, and he achieved a match haul of 8 wickets for 103 runs. Throughout his Test career, Doshi recorded six five-wicket hauls and four four-wicket hauls. In ODIs, Doshi played 15 matches, taking 22 wickets at an average of 23.81, with best figures of 4 for 30. His economy rate in ODIs was an impressive 3.96.

Doshi made his domestic cricket debut in the 1968-69 season and played 238 first-class matches until he retired in 1986. In domestic cricket, he played for Bengal and Saurashtra and also represented English county teams such as Sussex and Nottinghamshire. He took 898 wickets with 43 five-wicket hauls and six 10-wicket hauls in domestic cricket.

Doshi was last seen publicly at the World Test Championship Final between South Africa and Australia at Lord's.

Many figures in the cricket world have expressed their grief. Niranjan Shah, a former secretary of the BCCI, described Doshi as "not only one of the legendary cricketers, but also one of the finest human beings I have ever known," praising his integrity and dedication to the game. Jaydev Shah, president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, considered Doshi an uncle and noted that his passing is "an irreparable loss to the cricketing fraternity."
