Manchester United are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo, with recent reports suggesting that they have submitted an improved bid exceeding £60 million. This move comes as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the upcoming season.

Mbeumo, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham, is said to be a key target for United, who are keen to add more firepower to their squad. After triggering Matheus Cunha's £62.5 million release clause, United are now focusing on securing Mbeumo's signature as their second major signing of the transfer window.

United's initial bid for the Cameroon international, reportedly worth £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, was rejected by Brentford. However, the Red Devils have returned with an improved offer, signaling their determination to land the prolific forward.

Despite interest from Tottenham, reports suggest that Mbeumo's preference is a move to Old Trafford. However, the deal is far from finalized, with Brentford holding firm on their demands. The Bees are reportedly seeking a fee similar to the one United paid for Cunha and, crucially, want the majority of the fee paid upfront rather than in installments.

This demand for an upfront payment could pose a challenge for United, who were initially hoping to structure the deal over several years. Their previous attempt to pay for Cunha over five years before eventually agreeing to three installments over two seasons highlights their financial constraints and need to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Brentford's strong negotiating position is further strengthened by the fact that they hold the option to extend Mbeumo's contract, which expires in June 2026, by an additional year. This allows them to potentially spark a bidding war between United and Tottenham, driving up the price for their prized asset.

Mbeumo is coming off a stellar season for Brentford, where he scored 20 Premier League goals. His impressive form has not only made him a target for top clubs but has also solidified his reputation as one of the most dangerous attackers in the league. Beyond goals, Mbeumo also provides key passes and successful dribbles, making him a versatile threat.

If United manage to complete the Mbeumo deal, it could trigger a series of departures from Old Trafford. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford are among the players who could be sold to offset the spending and comply with financial regulations. Furthermore, Manchester United are also reportedly exploring a move for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
