Prithvi Shaw's domestic cricket future has become a major talking point after reports emerged that he has requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). This move signals the end of his long-standing association with Mumbai, the team where he made his first-class debut in 2017.

Shaw's decision comes after a challenging period in his career. Despite being hailed as a prodigious talent early on, his journey has been marred by inconsistent form, fitness concerns, and disciplinary issues. He was notably dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy team last year due to fitness concerns, and he also went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, further highlighting his recent struggles.

According to sources, Shaw has received offers from multiple state teams, but he is reportedly leaning towards joining the Maharashtra Cricket Team. If this move materializes, it would mean that Shaw would be playing under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, a prominent figure in the domestic circuit and the captain of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

The MCA has confirmed receiving Shaw's request and has granted him the NOC. In his letter to the MCA, Shaw expressed his gratitude for the opportunities and support he received from the association during his time with Mumbai. He stated that he believes this move to another state association will contribute to his growth and development as a cricketer. The MCA, in turn, acknowledged Shaw's contributions to Mumbai cricket and wished him the best for his future endeavors.

Shaw's career has been a rollercoaster ride. After a sensational Test debut in 2018, where he scored a century, he was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. However, he has struggled to maintain consistency and has been out of the national team for a considerable period. His last appearance for India was in July 2021, during a tour of Sri Lanka.

The move to Maharashtra could provide Shaw with a fresh start and an opportunity to revive his career. Playing under Gaikwad, who is likely to be available for most of the domestic season due to his uncertain place in the Indian team, could be beneficial for Shaw. Gaikwad's leadership and experience could help Shaw regain his confidence and form.

It is important to note that Shaw's career has been punctuated by setbacks. In 2019, he was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a doping violation. He has also faced criticism for his fitness levels and disciplinary issues. Last year, the Mumbai senior selection committee dropped him from the Ranji Trophy team, citing poor fitness.

Despite these challenges, Shaw remains a talented cricketer with the potential to make a comeback. A change of scenery and a supportive environment could be just what he needs to rediscover his best form. His inclusion in the Maharashtra team would undoubtedly strengthen their batting lineup and make them a formidable force in the Ranji Trophy.
