Neymar has officially extended his contract with Santos FC until the end of December, confirming his commitment to the club where his illustrious career began. The 33-year-old forward, who initially returned to his boyhood club in late January on a six-month deal after parting ways with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, has put pen to paper on a new contract.

The news, confirmed by both Neymar and Santos on Tuesday, puts to rest speculations linking him with a move to Major League Soccer or a potential return to European football. In a statement released on the club's website, Neymar expressed his deep connection with Santos, stating, "I made a decision and I listened to my heart. Santos is not just my team, it is my home, my roots, my history, and my life. Here I was a boy who became a man, and I am truly loved. Here I can be myself, truly happy. And it is here that I want to fulfil the dreams that are missing in my career. And nothing will stop me. I go, I come back, and I stay. Where it all began and where it will never end."

Santos President Marcelo Teixeira hailed the contract extension as a "historic and remarkable day for Brazilian football," emphasizing its significance for the club's rebuilding process. "Our idol, our boy, the prince with our number 10 shirt remains. It is a very important moment in this reconstruction process, and we needed Neymar, both on and off the field," Teixeira stated.

Since his return to Santos, Neymar has played 12 matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists. However, his appearances have been limited due to muscle injuries. Prior to his recent stint, Neymar made 225 appearances for Santos, scoring 138 goals and playing a pivotal role in the club's six title wins. Santos, which was relegated in 2023, has returned to the top division this year.

While the specific details of the contract remain undisclosed, it has been noted that the agreement extends only until the end of December, leading to speculation about Neymar's plans for the future, particularly concerning the 2026 World Cup. Brazil's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has indicated that he is counting on Neymar's recovery to participate in the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Neymar's latest appearance for Santos was marred by a controversial incident during a match against Botafogo on June 1, where he was sent off in the 76th minute for using his hand to score. Despite this setback, his commitment to Santos remains unwavering, and he is expected to play a key role in the team's campaign.
