Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo for a fee in excess of £60 million. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old Cameroonian international throughout the summer, and it appears that their persistence is about to pay off.

After an initial bid of £55 million was rejected by Brentford, United have returned with an improved offer that is closer to the Bees' valuation of the player. Brentford are understood to be holding out for a fee in the region of £62.5 million, similar to what United paid for Matheus Cunha. United are hoping to structure the deal in a way that is acceptable to Brentford, with a significant portion of the fee paid upfront.

Mbeumo has reportedly made it clear that he is keen on a move to Old Trafford, and has already agreed personal terms with the club. This has given United an advantage over other potential suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur, who were also linked with the player. Despite Spurs' qualification for the Champions League and the appointment of his former Brentford coach Thomas Frank, Mbeumo's preference is to join United and play under Ruben Amorim.

Mbeumo is seen as a player who fits well into Amorim's tactical system, and United are eager to add him to their attacking options. Last season, Mbeumo enjoyed a stellar campaign for Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. His versatility, work rate, and eye for goal have made him a highly sought-after player.

United's need for attacking reinforcements is evident after a disappointing season in which they struggled to score goals. With a negative goal difference in the Premier League, Amorim has identified the forward line as an area that needs significant improvement. The addition of Mbeumo, alongside the already secured signing of Matheus Cunha, would provide a significant boost to United's attacking capabilities.

Brentford are said to be willing to let Mbeumo leave if their valuation is met, as they believe he has earned the chance to move to a bigger club. His departure would represent a club-record sale for Brentford, surpassing the £40 million they received for Ivan Toney. While Mbeumo's exit would be a blow to Brentford, they are prepared to reinvest the funds into strengthening their squad in other areas.

The potential arrival of Mbeumo is generating excitement among Manchester United fans, who are eager to see the club challenging for major honors once again. United are also reportedly planning further additions to strengthen their midfield and goalkeeping positions.
