The 2025 NHL Draft is rapidly approaching, and final consensus rankings are solidifying among top hockey prospect evaluators. This year's draft class presents a unique blend of high-end talent and intriguing depth, making it a crucial event for teams looking to bolster their rosters for the future.

At the top of many rankings sits Matthew Schaefer, a talented left-handed defenseman playing for the Erie Otters in the OHL. Schaefer has impressed scouts with his all-around game, combining size, skating ability, and hockey sense. He projects as a potential top-pairing defenseman who can contribute at both ends of the ice. Some scouts consider him a potential long-term number one defenseman.

Following closely behind Schaefer is Michael Misa, a dynamic center/left wing. Misa is known for his exceptional offensive skills and playmaking ability. He has the potential to be a top-line center who can drive offense and create scoring chances. Misa’s impressive 134 points this season marks him as the most productive draft-eligible player since Patrick Kane.

Another highly touted forward is Porter Martone, a right-winger. Martone is a powerful skater with a knack for scoring goals. His combination of skill and physicality makes him a coveted prospect.

James Hagens, a center who plays for Boston College, entered the year as the presumed number one prospect. While he had a good season, he was eventually overtaken by Schaefer. However, Hagens remains a highly skilled player with excellent hockey sense.

Rounding out the top five is Anton Frondell, a center with Djurgårdens IF. Frondell is a skilled player with excellent offensive instincts.

Caleb Desnoyers of the Moncton Wildcats is also expected to be a high pick. Desnoyers is a solid all-around player who plays a strong two-way game, contributing both offensively and defensively. His plus-51 rating this season speaks to his defensive responsibility, and he projects as a reliable top-six forward.

Other notable prospects include Jake O'Brien, Brady Martin, Victor Eklund, and Roger McQueen, all of whom possess unique skill sets and potential to develop into impact players at the NHL level.

Defensemen such as Kashawn Aitcheson and Radim Mrtka are also drawing attention. Aitcheson is a promising left-handed defenseman, while Mrtka plays on the right side. Logan Hensler is another defenseman who was at one point projected to be a top-five pick.

Several other forwards are also considered to have high potential. Justin Carbonneau is known for his excellent shot and ability to beat players in one-on-one situations.

Overall, the 2025 NHL Draft is shaping up to be an exciting event, with a mix of high-end talent and intriguing prospects throughout the draft. While there may not be overwhelming depth beyond the top few rounds, the available talent and the work of scouts will be critical in identifying players who can develop into valuable NHL contributors.
