Manchester City fans can breathe a sigh of relief as goalkeeper Ederson Moraes has committed his future to the club, dismissing recent rumors linking him with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. The Brazilian shot-stopper, who has been a vital part of City's success since joining in 2017, has branded the reports as "99% fake news," reassuring supporters of his dedication to the Sky Blues.

Ederson's declaration comes amid swirling speculation, particularly regarding potential interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. These rumors gained traction last summer, with reports suggesting that Al-Nassr had even submitted a substantial bid, but Manchester City rejected the offer. Ederson himself confirmed receiving an "unusual proposal" but ultimately chose to remain in Manchester after discussions with manager Pep Guardiola.

Addressing the media, Ederson firmly stated, "My future is here. Some friends send me a lot of news, but 99% is fake news. I understand you guys (media), you need the news to put a like on social media or rant for the news. I understand, but there's a lot of fake news around my name. My head is here, it stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.”

The 31-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with City, increasing the anxiety among fans regarding his future. However, his recent comments have alleviated those concerns, signaling his intent to see out his contract and potentially extend his stay. Since arriving from Benfica for a reported £35 million, Ederson has been instrumental in City's trophy-laden era, securing six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the coveted Champions League trophy. He has also won the Premier League Golden Glove three times, highlighting his consistency and quality.

Guardiola has expressed his delight with Ederson's commitment. "What I can say, I'm so pleased and delighted with what I'm seeing in the training sessions and delighted that Eddie is still with us," Guardiola said. "We cannot define what we have done in this incredible, spectacular decade without him. His contribution has been massive in many, many aspects and I'm really pleased."

Ederson's importance to City extends beyond his shot-stopping abilities. His exceptional distribution skills and composure on the ball are crucial to City's tactical approach, allowing them to build from the back and maintain possession. His presence provides a sense of security and stability to the team, making him an invaluable asset. In the 2024-25 season, Ederson made 37 appearances across all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets, with 10 of those coming in the Premier League. He boasted a save percentage of 67.1%, further solidifying his reputation as one of the league's top goalkeepers.

With Ederson confirming his stay, Manchester City can focus on preparing for the upcoming season without the distraction of transfer speculation surrounding their key goalkeeper. As City look to continue their dominance in English football and compete for further Champions League glory, Ederson's commitment provides a significant boost to their ambitions.
