Keith Andrews has been appointed as the new head coach of Brentford Football Club, marking a significant chapter for the former Republic of Ireland international. The 44-year-old steps into the role following Thomas Frank's departure to Tottenham, after having been a part of the Bees' first-team coaching staff since July 2024. Andrews' appointment was officially announced by the club on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Andrews' journey to the Brentford hot seat is a testament to his dedication and coaching acumen. Prior to joining Brentford, he served as a set-piece coach, arriving from Sheffield United where he worked under Chris Wilder. His coaching career also includes a stint as assistant manager to Stephen Kenny during Kenny's three-year tenure as Republic of Ireland boss from 2020 to 2023, as well as a period as MK Dons' assistant manager for the 2015/16 Championship campaign. As a player, Andrews had a 16-year career, representing clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Hull City, MK Dons, and Blackburn Rovers. He also earned 35 caps for the Republic of Ireland and played at UEFA Euro 2012.

Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, expressed confidence in Andrews' ability to lead the team forward. "Keith is a very good fit," Giles stated. "He gets on with everyone, he's very open and he's a learner. Keith is clear in what he wants, he's detailed, and the players and staff like and respect him." Giles also highlighted Andrews' understanding of the team's current players and the training methods implemented under Thomas Frank, suggesting a smooth transition and continued progress. "Keith will bring his own evolution but isn't starting from scratch, so hopefully we can make some quick progress," Giles added.

Andrews' appointment is not just a continuation of the existing framework but an opportunity for evolution. Giles emphasized that the club was looking for someone who could not only maintain their current standards but also strive for improvement. Andrews' expertise in set-pieces, which saw Brentford ranked seventh in the Premier League in that category last season, will be a valuable asset.

Sky Sports News reported that Andrews' contract is for three years. His first Premier League game in charge is scheduled to be live on Sky Sports against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, August 17. While his backroom staff is yet to be confirmed, Brentford is reportedly close to finalizing those appointments.

Andrews is the latest in a line of Irish internationals to manage in the English top-flight, following in the footsteps of David O'Leary, Mick McCarthy, Joe Kinnear, Roy Keane, Owen Coyle, and Chris Hughton. He is the first former Ireland international to manage in the English top-flight since Chris Hughton.

The appointment of Andrews reflects Brentford's strategic approach to maintaining stability while fostering growth. By promoting from within, the club is ensuring continuity and building on the foundations laid by his predecessor, Thomas Frank.
