On a challenging, hot, and windy day at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III emerged to share the lead after the first round of LIV Golf Dallas. Both members of the 4Aces GC carded impressive 5-under-par 67s.

Reed's round was highlighted by an eagle on the second hole, along with four birdies. His only stumble came at the par-4 18th, where he bogeyed after missing a shot. Varner's performance included birdies on the 13th, 15th, 17th, and 18th holes. He also birdied the sixth and seventh to reach 6 under before giving a stroke back on the ninth.

Jon Rahm is lurking just one stroke behind the leaders. Rahm made four birdies and holed out for an eagle at the sixth. He finished the day with a 4-under 68. Abraham Ancer is also in contention, sitting two shots back at 3-under after a somewhat erratic round that included seven birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey. Dustin Johnson, another member of 4Aces GC, is also in the top 10 after carding a 2-under 70.

Reed expressed that the softened greens allowed for a more aggressive approach. Varner also enjoyed playing alongside his 4Aces GC teammate. He stated that while he wants to beat Reed, it was still enjoyable to play with him. Reed mirrored this sentiment, stating that he was feeding off of Varner's solid play.

The strong performance of Reed, Varner III, and Johnson propelled 4Aces GC to the top of the team leaderboard with a score of 9-under. They hold a six-shot lead over Crushers GC.

Sergio Garcia, who is attempting to maintain his LIV Golf exemption into the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, struggled early after hitting his ball into the water for a double bogey. Although he recovered with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th, late bogeys led to a 3-over 75. He is still holding onto the Open Championship spot but just barely.

Brooks Koepka was forced to withdraw from the tournament after eight holes due to illness. Also, Matthew Wolff and Frederik Kjettrup withdrew due to injury.
