Timothy Fosu-Mensah remains determined to find a new club and reignite his career, expressing confidence that his dedication will ultimately pay off. The 27-year-old former Manchester United defender has been without a team for a year, a situation he describes as "quite early and... quite strange" for someone his age.

Fosu-Mensah, an Ajax youth product, made his breakthrough at Old Trafford, playing in 30 first-team matches. His time there was marked by loan spells and injuries, which hampered his playing time. He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on loan at Fulham in 2019, and another followed in February 2021 while playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite these setbacks, Fosu-Mensah is optimistic about his future, stating, "I know I've been working hard and hard work won't go unnoticed. That's what I believe". He emphasizes the importance of proactive effort, noting, "If you stay at home, you do nothing and then you think 'boom, OK, I'm going to go this club or that club', no, that's not how it works, that's not my mentality. It's definitely a fresh start and I've been working hard".

His last competitive appearance was in April 2023, but he is confident in his ability to make a comeback, citing his rigorous fitness regime and the examples of others who have overcome similar challenges. He affirms that he feels "as strong as ever, mentally and physically," even after a season with Bayer Leverkusen where he did not make an appearance despite being fit for most of the campaign.

Fosu-Mensah's departure from Bayer Leverkusen was complicated by issues with agents. "There was a couple of situations with agents here and there, which was a bit of a mess," he explained. "People were speaking on my name who I never even had contact with".

In January 2025, Middlesbrough reportedly declined an opportunity to sign Fosu-Mensah due to concerns about his fitness. He had been training with Jong Ajax to maintain his fitness after becoming a free agent the previous summer. Several other Championship clubs, including Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City, and Blackburn Rovers, were also approached but reportedly rejected the offer due to similar concerns about his physical condition. His career has been plagued by injuries, including a cruciate ligament injury during his time at Leverkusen that sidelined him for nine months.

Despite the challenges, Fosu-Mensah remains focused on the future. He also shared his hopes for Manchester United, including Marcus Rashford, with whom he debuted in the Premier League in February 2016. "I just want him to be happy," he said of Rashford. "Everybody just wants him to be happy. The most important things is for him to feel good, for him to feel happy. Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he's a top player".

Recently, Fosu-Mensah has been on trial with Serie A side Como, who were recently promoted. The club, with Cesc Fabregas working to improve the team, will assess Fosu-Mensah's performance during the trial to determine whether to offer him a place in the squad. Como is in the market for a full-back, and Fosu-Mensah has emerged as a potential option.
