Former Manchester United, Liverpool and England footballer Paul Ince has been charged with drink driving following a collision on Saturday evening. The incident occurred on June 28 at approximately 5 p.m. on Chester High Road in Neston, Cheshire.

Cheshire Police responded to reports of a collision involving a black Range Rover that had crashed into the central reservation barrier. Upon arrival, officers arrested a 57-year-old man, who has now been identified as Paul Ince.

A statement from Cheshire Police confirmed that "Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving". He has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on July 18.

The location of the crash, near Heswall Golf Club, has drawn attention as Ince has previously posted photos from the area on his Instagram account.

Ince, who is now 57 years old, had a distinguished football career spanning from 1986 to 2007. He played for several high-profile clubs, including West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. His time at Manchester United was particularly successful, where he won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the League Cup under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson. He made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils in the early to mid 1990s.

Ince also holds the distinction of being the first black player to captain the England national team, taking the armband in a game against the United States in 1993. He captained his country seven times in total.

After retiring from playing, Ince transitioned into management, beginning with Macclesfield Town in 2006. Most recently, he was in charge of Championship side Reading from 2022 to 2023.
