Following a recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 lives lost, the participation of Pakistan's men's hockey team in the upcoming Men's Asia Cup 2025 is now uncertain. Hockey India (HI) is currently in communication with the Indian government regarding the matter and will adhere to whatever instructions are provided. A Hockey India official stated that, considering the current circumstances, they do not anticipate the Pakistan team being permitted to participate in the tournament.

The Men's Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 29 to September 9. This tournament also serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 FIH Men's Hockey World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands. The winner of the Asia Cup will secure a spot in the World Cup.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have cast doubt over Pakistan's participation. Recent reports from Pakistan have indicated that Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials have stated their intention to participate and are preparing accordingly. However, there has been no confirmation from the FIH (International Hockey Federation), the Asian Hockey Federation, or Hockey India.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey has reiterated that they will abide by the government's directives on the matter and are not considering any alternative scenarios at this time. He stated that Hockey India is in constant contact with the government and has kept them informed of all developments. They will follow the government's instructions and then inform the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF). When asked whether the competition would proceed with seven teams or if another team would be invited to replace Pakistan, Tirkey deferred to the AHF to make that decision.

Bhola Nath Singh, the secretary general of Hockey India, is also the vice-president of the AHF. Any decision regarding Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup is likely to influence their participation in the Hockey Men's Junior World Cup, where India and Pakistan are in the same pool.
