Surrey County Cricket Club has etched its name in the record books, achieving a historic milestone by surpassing its previous highest score of 811 runs, set in 1899, with a mammoth 820/9 declared against Durham. This feat, accomplished on June 30, 2025, at the Oval, marks the fourth-highest total ever recorded in County Championship history. The remarkable innings was powered by Dom Sibley's career-best triple century and supported by centuries from Sam Curran, Dan Lawrence, and Will Jacks.

Dom Sibley's marathon innings of 305 runs off 475 balls was the cornerstone of Surrey's record-breaking total. His knock included 29 fours and two sixes. Sibley's triple century is only the fifth scored for Surrey. Resuming on 169, Sibley demonstrated remarkable concentration and timing, solidifying his position as the leading run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship this season, with 976 runs at an average of over 75. This impressive performance has sparked discussions about a potential Test recall for the former England opener.

The Surrey innings was characterized by dominant partnerships, with Sibley sharing a 170-run stand with Sam Curran, a 334-run partnership with Dan Lawrence, and 133 runs with Will Jacks. Curran contributed a brisk 108 off 124 balls, while Lawrence blazed his way to 178 off 149 deliveries. Jacks added a rapid 119 off just 94 balls, further demoralizing the Durham bowling attack.

Durham's bowlers struggled to contain Surrey's batting onslaught. George Drissell faced the brunt of the attack, conceding 247 runs in his 45 overs while picking up one wicket. Will Rhodes was the most successful Durham bowler, taking 3 wickets for 131 runs. By the end of the second day, Durham were 1-59, still trailing by 761 runs.

Surrey's imposing total is the fourth-highest in County Championship history. Yorkshire holds the record with 887 against Warwickshire in 1896. Other high scores include Lancashire's 863 against Surrey in 1990 and Somerset's 850-7 declared against Middlesex in 2007.

Elsewhere in Division One, Worcestershire captain Jake Libby scored an unbeaten 228. At the same time, Daniel Hughes' 151 helped Sussex to 278 for three after Warwickshire were all out for 415 at Hove. In Division Two, James Anderson, playing for Lancashire, took two wickets for 45 runs against Derbyshire.
