The Indian cricket team is reportedly considering several changes to its lineup for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, which begins on July 2, 2025. These potential adjustments follow India's loss in the first Test at Headingley.

One of the definite changes is that Jasprit Bumrah will be rested. Akash Deep is expected to take his place in the starting eleven. Akash Deep has been performing well in the nets and is said to be free from any niggles. His performance on the Australia tour and his ability to swing the ball could pose challenges for the English batsmen.

Another potential change involves the replacement of Prasidh Krishna with Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep's ability to generate late swing could be valuable in Bumrah's absence. However, this change has not been finalized.

There is also a possibility of Washington Sundar replacing Shardul Thakur. Washington's all-round abilities with both bat and ball have been noted. Nitish Kumar Reddy may replace either Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair. Reddy's medium pace bowling could provide additional support to the main bowlers. These changes could provide India with six bowling options, including Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep, Akash, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington, and Nitish. The inclusion of six bowlers could be beneficial in a potentially high-scoring game.

According to some reports, India might field two spinners in the Edgbaston Test. Kuldeep Yadav has a strong chance of being picked alongside Ravindra Jadeja or Washington Sundar. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate mentioned the possibility of playing two spinners, emphasizing the need to balance the batting depth.

Additionally, there may be changes in the fielding positions. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped four catches in the first Test, might be moved from the slip cordon.

Despite quiet performances in the first Test, Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan are expected to retain their places. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed his support for Karun during his lean patch.

England has announced an unchanged XI for the second Test. Jofra Archer remains unavailable due to injury.

The weather forecast for the Test match indicates a possibility of light rain on Days 1, 4, and 5.
