Jarell Quansah has officially transferred from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen. The defender finalized the move to the Bundesliga side on Wednesday. Quansah, a product of Liverpool's academy since the age of five, accumulated 58 senior appearances, scored three goals, and won both Premier League and Carabao Cup titles.

The transfer fee is reported to be an initial €35 million, potentially rising to €40.8 million with add-ons, making Quansah Leverkusen's record signing, surpassing the €32 million they paid for Kerem Demirbay in 2020. Liverpool have also included a buy-back clause in the deal, reportedly set at €60 million plus add-ons, although some reports suggest this clause may not be active until 2027.

Quansah made his senior debut for Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp in August 2023, during a match against Newcastle United. He scored his first goal against Union SG in the Europa League in December and added goals against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers later in the season. In Arne Slot's debut season, Quansah played in 25 matches, including 13 in the league, contributing to Liverpool's 20th top-flight championship. His last act as a Liverpool player was lifting the Premier League trophy.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes expressed his delight at signing Quansah, describing him as "one of the most promising English central defenders" who is "fast, agile, and a good footballer". Quansah himself stated that he was impressed with Leverkusen after playing against them in the UEFA Champions League and is looking forward to the new challenge and the club's ambitious goals.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen, committing him to the club until June 30, 2030. This move marks the third transfer between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen this summer, following the transfers of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool.

Quansah's departure also marks a significant moment for Liverpool, as the initial fee makes him the club's sixth most expensive departure, surpassing Xabi Alonso's transfer to Real Madrid in 2010. This is Liverpool's biggest sale since Fabinho's move to Al-Ittihad last summer. So far this summer, Liverpool has earned €63.3 million from player sales, including Quansah, Caoimhín Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips.

Quansah was also a key member of the England U21 squad that won the UEFA European Championship, defeating Germany 3-2 in the final. He was also named in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad in March, although he did not play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Sky Sports reports that the deal is worth up to £35 million, with an initial £30 million guaranteed plus £5 million in easily achievable add-ons.
