The New Jersey Devils have locked in center Cody Glass with a two-year contract extension worth $5 million, carrying an annual average value of $2.5 million. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald. This move ensures that Glass, who was a restricted free agent, remains with the team through the 2026-27 season.

Glass, born on April 1, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was initially drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights as the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. Before joining the Devils, the 25-year-old forward had stints with the Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Devils acquired Glass from the Penguins on March 7, 2025, in exchange for Chase Stillman, unsigned draft choice Max Graham, and New Jersey's 2027 third-round draft pick.

In the 2024-25 season, Glass played 14 regular-season games with the Devils, recording seven points (2 goals, 5 assists). He made his debut with the team on March 9 against the Philadelphia Flyers and quickly made an impact, becoming the third Devils player that season to score a goal in his debut. In his first five games with New Jersey, Glass tallied five points (2 goals, 3 assists) with an impressive shooting percentage of 33.3%. Overall in the 2024-25 season, Cody Glass played 65 games and recorded 6 goals and 16 assists, totaling 22 points.

Before the extension, there were rumors that the Devils might not extend a qualifying offer to Glass, which would have made him an unrestricted free agent. However, the team decided to retain the former first-round pick. This new contract mirrors his previous two-year deal with a $2.5 million cap hit, which he originally signed with the Nashville Predators in July 2023.

Glass's journey in the NHL has seen him represent Canada at the 2017 U18 World Junior Championship, the 2019 World Junior Championship, and the 2023 World Championship. Throughout his NHL career, he has amassed 86 points (33 goals, 53 assists) in 238 regular-season games.
