The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the New York Mets 7-2 in the first game of Wednesday's double-header, propelled by a grand slam from Joey Ortiz in the sixth inning. The victory marks the continuation of struggles for the Mets, who have now lost 14 of their last 17 games.

The Brewers' offense was ignited early by Sal Frelick, who launched a leadoff home run in the first inning. The Mets responded, eventually taking a 2-1 lead thanks to an RBI single by Pete Alonso in the fourth. However, that would be the last hit the Mets would record in the game.

The pivotal moment arrived in the sixth inning. After Reed Garrett replaced Mets starter Clay Holmes, Brice Turang hit an RBI double to tie the game. Garrett then loaded the bases before Joey Ortiz connected on a 3-1 cutter, sending it to left field for a grand slam. This was Ortiz's first career grand slam. For the game, Ortiz went 1-for-4 with 4 RBI. Isaac Collins added a solo home run in the seventh inning, further solidifying the Brewers' lead. Collins had an impressive day, going 4-for-4 with a home run and a walk.

Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings and allowing only two runs on two hits while striking out six. He earned his fourth straight start. Nick Mears and DL Hall closed out the game for the Brewers, completing the two-hitter.

The Mets' offense, in contrast, struggled mightily, managing only two hits throughout the game. They have been outscored 37-6 in their last four games. Reed Garrett (2-4) took the loss, while Peralta improved to 9-4.

The game lasted 2 hours and 34 minutes, with an attendance of 36,335 at Citi Field.
