The Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets, both with a record of 48-37, faced off in a series at Citi Field. The series was highly anticipated, especially as a rematch of last year's NL Wild Card Series.

The first game of the series, initially scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday.

In the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday, July 2nd, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the New York Mets 7-2. Joey Ortiz hit a tie-breaking grand slam in the sixth inning, leading the Brewers to victory. Sal Frelick started the game with a leadoff home run, his first of his career. Freddy Peralta pitched six innings, allowing only two hits, securing his fourth consecutive win. Isaac Collins, a Brewers rookie, had an impressive performance, going 4 for 4 with a home run and a walk. The Mets took an early lead with an RBI single by Pete Alonso in the fourth inning, but that would be the last hit they would get in the game.

For the Brewers, Freddy Peralta was originally scheduled to start Tuesday's game, but instead started game 1 of Wednesday's double header. Garrett Mitchell is recovering from shoulder surgery and is expected to be ready for spring training next year.

For the Mets, Clay Holmes was also scheduled to start Tuesday's game, but instead started game 1 of Wednesday's double header. Kodai Senga, is recovering from a hamstring injury, and recently participated in a live batting practice session. The Mets have been struggling, losing 14 of their last 17 games. Injuries have contributed to the Mets' pitching woes, and the offense has struggled with runners on base, despite hitting the sixth-most home runs in baseball, they are 13th in runs scored.

Looking ahead, the Brewers will continue to focus on infrastructure improvements at American Family Field, including winterizing the stadium to host year-round events. New features for fans include a food truck park called "The Alley" and a facial-authentication ticketing system. The Mets will retire number 5, which was worn by former Mets captain David Wright, and induct him into the Mets Hall of Fame on July 19th.
