Sachin Tendulkar has lauded the performances of young Indian batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill during the Edgbaston Test. Tendulkar praised Jaiswal's positive, fearless, and aggressive approach from the start, and Gill's composure under pressure, solid defense, and control.

The praise came after Jaiswal and Gill took responsibility with the bat in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. With the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Jaiswal has stepped into the opener's role, while Gill is filling Kohli's shoes at number 4. Tendulkar's appreciation of their batting performances on Day 1 of the Edgbaston Test highlighted their role in rescuing India from a tricky position.

Tendulkar's message on social media platform X read, ".@ybj_19 set the tone from ball one. He was positive, fearless and smartly aggressive. @ShubmanGill was cool as ever, calm under pressure, solid in defence and in total control. Classy knocks from both. Well played, boys!".

Earlier in June, Tendulkar had also shared advice for Jaiswal regarding his bat speed, emphasizing mental clarity and timing adjustments. He believes bat speed can be controlled and likened it to footwork, suggesting that mental hesitation, rather than physical inability, often causes errors.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh has grabbed attention for his praise of Steve Smith, following the Australian cricketer's ODI retirement. Yuvraj, who played with Smith in the Indian Premier League for Pune Warriors India, remembers Smith as a "young lad, eager to prove himself" when he first joined the team in 2012. He commended Smith's journey from a bowling all-rounder to a two-time World Cup winner, highlighting his "dedication and perseverance".

Smith's career achievements include being part of Australia's World Cup-winning squads in 2015 and 2023. In the 2015 final against New Zealand, he scored the winning runs. Other Australian cricketers, such as Shane Watson and Usman Khawaja, have also lauded Smith's career. Watson recalled Smith's 65 against Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup quarter-final and his 105 against India in the semi-final as standout innings.

Gill has also achieved a rare feat, scoring a century in Edgbaston to begin his captaincy with tons in consecutive matches.
