The 15th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2025 commenced on July 3rd at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The tournament is scheduled to run until July 14th. This year's edition features 28 teams and introduces a division-based format, which was first implemented earlier this year during the Senior Men's and Women's National Championships.

The 28 participating teams are divided into three divisions: A, B, and C. This structure introduces promotion and relegation, adding a competitive edge to the tournament. Division A comprises the top 12 teams in the country, who will compete for the national title. Defending champions Hockey Jharkhand and last year's runner-up, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, are expected to be strong contenders in Division A. Divisions B and C will provide a platform for emerging teams to climb the ranks.

Teams will earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss in all divisions. Each team will play round-robin matches within its pool. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the Quarterfinals on July 11th, followed by the Semifinals on July 12th, and the Final and 3rd place playoff on July 14th. The bottom two teams in Division A will be relegated to Division B for the next year. If a classification match in Division A ends in a draw at the end of regulation time, a shoot-out competition will determine the winner, as specified in the FIH Tournament Regulations.

Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey emphasized the importance of the tournament, stating that the division-based format has brought a new sense of purpose and competitiveness to the domestic structure. He added that the Sub Junior Women's National Championship is a crucial platform for identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots level and that hosting the tournament in Ranchi, a region with a strong hockey culture, makes the event even more special. Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh noted that the revamped structure gives every team a clear goal, whether it's winning the championship, earning promotion, or avoiding relegation, which keeps the excitement alive at every level of the tournament.

Pool compositions for the divisions are as follows: Division C features teams in pool A including RAJ and HHP. Pool B includes ASH, GOA, TEL, and HJK.
