Tragedy has struck the football world with the news of Diogo Jota's death at the age of 28. The Liverpool forward reportedly died in a car crash in Spain.

According to reports from Spanish and Portuguese media outlets, the accident occurred near Zamora, in northwestern Spain. Initial reports indicate that Jota was traveling with his 26-year-old brother, Andre, when the vehicle left the A-52 highway and caught fire. Emergency services, including the Traffic Civil Guard, the Zamora Provincial Fire Brigade, and medical teams, responded to the scene. Sadly, both Diogo and Andre Jota were pronounced dead at the scene.

Diogo Jota, a Portuguese international, had a notable career, scoring 14 goals in 49 appearances for his country and winning the UEFA Nations League twice. He joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and quickly became an integral part of the team's attacking lineup. In his time with the Reds, he made 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. He also won two Premier League titles.

The news of Jota's death comes just two weeks after his marriage to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, in Porto. The Portuguese Football Federation and Liverpool FC are expected to release official statements soon, as tributes pour in from around the globe.
