Neeraj Chopra, India's celebrated javelin thrower, is not only focused on personal athletic achievements but is also dedicated to giving back to Indian athletics. The Neeraj Chopra Classic, a World Athletics Gold Level event, embodies this commitment, marking a significant milestone as India's first-ever international javelin competition. Scheduled to take place on July 5th at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, the event is co-organized by Chopra and JSW Sports, with sanctioning from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Chopra views the NC Classic as more than just a competition; he sees it as a platform to provide Indian athletes with the exposure they need to compete against world-class talent on a global stage. He aims to create opportunities similar to those available in countries like Germany, where numerous international competitions occur regularly. Chopra envisions India hosting at least four or five world-class meets annually to benefit Indian athletes and inspire the public.

The inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic will feature a star-studded field, including Olympic medalists and top international athletes. Chopra himself will be competing, making his most significant competitive appearance in India to date. The event has attracted a strong international contingent, elevating India's profile in the global athletics arena.

To ensure the event's success, the Sree Kanteerava Stadium has undergone significant renovations, including upgraded spectator stands, VVIP and corporate boxes, and a new pitch-side hospitality zone. An entertainment stage and a re-laid turf have also been added to enhance the experience for both athletes and fans.

Chopra's hands-on involvement in organizing the NC Classic demonstrates his dedication to the sport beyond his personal achievements. He has been actively participating in meetings with World Athletics and AFI officials, coordinating with JSW Sports, and providing his inputs and suggestions across various departments. Chopra sees this experience as a valuable learning opportunity, giving him a newfound respect for event organizers.

The journey to bring the Neeraj Chopra Classic to fruition has not been without its challenges. Originally planned for Panchkula, the event was shifted to Bengaluru due to floodlight issues. It was also postponed due to India-Pakistan political tensions. Chopra personally reached out to the Karnataka Chief Minister to facilitate the venue change.

Despite the pressures of organizing the event, Chopra remains focused on his training and is excited to compete. He has expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received, acknowledging the roles of the Karnataka Olympic Association, sponsors, and World Athletics in making the event a reality.

The Neeraj Chopra Classic aims to be a recurring event on the international calendar, fostering sporting excellence and inspiring a new generation of athletes in India. Chopra's influence extends beyond his athletic achievements, as he actively promotes the sport and creates opportunities for others to succeed. His efforts are expected to have a lasting impact on the landscape of Indian athletics.

Tickets for the Neeraj Chopra Classic are available on District by Zomato, and the event will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed online via JioCinema and Hotstar.
