Kylian Mbappé has officially been granted the iconic No. 10 jersey at Real Madrid for the upcoming 2025–26 LaLiga season, following Luka Modrić's departure. Real Madrid confirmed the decision on their website, where the French superstar is now listed as the new No. 10 on the team's squad list. Mbappé also confirmed the news with a post on X, simply stating “10," which generated excitement across the football world.
Mbappé, who previously wore the No. 9 shirt, made a strong impression in his debut season, scoring 44 goals across all competitions. However, the No. 10 shirt was unavailable, as it was worn by Modrić. Now, with Modrić's exit, Mbappé will wear the same number for both club and country.
Real Madrid's decision to give Mbappé the No. 10 shirt shows how much they value the player. The No. 10 jersey has been worn by Real Madrid legends such as Luka Modrić, Mesut Özil, Clarence Seedorf, Luís Figo and Ferenc Puskás. The shirt is often associated with vision, flair, and style. Although Mbappé is a more attacking player compared to some of his predecessors, he brings productivity, style, and panache, making him a fitting inheritor of the special kit.
With Mbappé taking the No. 10, the No. 9 jersey is now available. The candidates to inherit it are Endrick, the Brazilian wonderkid, and young striker Gonzalo Garcia.
Mbappé's first match wearing the No. 10 will be on August 19, when Real Madrid starts their 2025-26 La Liga campaign against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid is preparing for the upcoming 2025-26 season, with four signings added to Xabi Alonso's squad. Besides Mbappé, Raul Asencio has also changed his squad number, taking the No. 17 shirt that was vacated by Lucas Vazquez.
