Orlando City SC's Rodrigo Schlegel propelled his team to a 1-0 lead against PUMAS UNAM in their Leagues Cup 2025 match with an early headed goal. The Argentinian defender found the back of the net in the 5th minute of the game, stunning Keylor Navas, PUMAS'star goalkeeper.

The goal came from a set piece, with the ball finding Schlegel who sent a powerful header towards the goal. Navas managed to get a touch on the ball, but it wasn't enough to keep it out.

The match, held on July 30, 2025, at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, marked the first meeting between Orlando City and PUMAS UNAM. For the Lions, this Leagues Cup represents a break from MLS play.

Pumas, one of the "Big Four" Mexican teams, entered the match following a 2-0 victory against Querétaro in the Apertura. This win marked their first three points of the 2025 fall season after dropping their first two matches.

Pumas' roster includes former MLS players Coco Carrasquilla and Pedro Vite. The team also recently acquired Aaron Ramsey and Keylor Navas.

Orlando City has a mixed record against Liga MX teams, with one win, two losses, and five draws in eight games. In contrast, Pumas has won three CONCACAF Champions Cups, with their most recent final appearance in 2022 where they were runners-up against the Seattle Sounders.

The Leagues Cup 2025 features a new format, with all matches up to the quarterfinal round being MLS vs. Liga MX matchups. The top three finishers will qualify for the Concacaf Champions Cup.
