The CONCACAF Gold Cup 2025 witnessed an exciting start for Panama as they secured a dominant 5-2 victory against Guadeloupe in their Group C opener. The match, held at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, showcased Panama's attacking prowess, with Tomás Rodríguez sealing the win with a late goal.

Panama started strongly, overwhelming Guadeloupe with a four-goal barrage in the first 22 minutes. Cristian Martinez opened the scoring in the 6th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Guadeloupe. Jorge Gutiérrez dispossessed Dimitri Cavaré and set up Martinez for an easy finish. Ismael Díaz then scored twice in quick succession, first in the 13th minute after a cross from Amir Murillo, and again in the 17th minute with a powerful shot following a defensive clearance. Eduardo Guerrero added a fourth goal from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute after a handball inside the area.

Guadeloupe managed to pull one back in the 29th minute with a stunning strike from Jordan Leborgne, who curled a shot into the top corner from outside the box. Florian David converted a penalty in the 71st minute, reducing the deficit to 4-2 and giving Guadeloupe some hope of a comeback.

However, Panama maintained control of the game and ensured the victory in added time. Éric Davis, a substitute, delivered a precise cross from the left wing, finding Tomás Rodríguez, who headed the ball into the net, extending Panama's lead and securing the 5-2 win. The goal marked Rodríguez's first international goal for Panama.

The match was an entertaining affair, featuring seven goals, a penalty awarded after VAR review, and excellent goals. Panama's dominant performance in the first half set the tone for the match, while Guadeloupe showed resilience in the second half with two goals.

With this win, Panama started their Gold Cup campaign on a high note. They next face Guatemala in Austin, Texas. Guadeloupe will look to bounce back against Jamaica in San Jose, California.
