A dominant performance by the Canadian national team saw them cruise to a 6-0 victory over Honduras in their opening match of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. The match, held at BC Place in Vancouver on Tuesday, June 17, showcased Canada's attacking prowess and depth, with Tajon Buchanan leading the charge with two goals.

The first half saw Canada take a firm grip on the game, with Niko Sigur opening the scoring in the 21st minute. Sigur's first international goal came after a well-worked combination with Jonathan David, who captained the team in the absence of Alphonso Davies and Stephen Eustaquio. Just before halftime, Tani Oluwaseyi doubled Canada's lead with a stunning strike from a tight angle, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The second half began with Canada continuing their attacking dominance. Three minutes after the restart, Tajon Buchanan scored his first goal of the match, extending Canada's lead to 3-0. The goal was a result of another beautiful piece of attacking football, with David picking out Laryea on the left, who then played the ball across the goal for Oluwaseyi to provide a clever backheel flick to Buchanan, who finished with ease.

Buchanan wasn't done there. In the 65th minute, he scored his second goal of the game, making it 4-0 for Canada. This time, the goal came from a Choinière corner, which Oluwaseyi headed down into Buchanan's path, and he made no mistake from close range.

With a comfortable lead, Canada continued to press forward. Substitute Promise David added a fifth goal in the 75th minute, further compounding Honduras's misery. Nathan Saliba then completed the rout in the 90th minute with a spectacular left-footed strike, sealing a 6-0 victory for Canada.

The 6-0 win is Canada's largest since Jesse Marsch took over as head coach last year. The team displayed great cohesion and efficiency in front of goal, with Buchanan's two goals highlighting his importance to the team's attack. The victory puts Canada atop Group B after the first round of fixtures. Canada will be back in action on June 21 against Curacao at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
