The inaugural Shooting League of India (SLI), organized by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), is generating significant buzz within the global shooting community. As of June 25, 2025, over 400 athletes have already registered for the event, signaling strong interest and participation from across the globe. The SLI is scheduled to take place from November 20 to December 2, 2025.

The NRAI first announced its intention to host the Shooting League of India in November of last year, with the goal of building on the momentum created by India's successes at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Shooters representing more than 20 countries, including India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran, Hungary, Croatia, Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Grenada, Italy, Austria, Serbia, the USA, Spain, Thailand, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, San Marino and Romania, have signed up for the competition, and registrations remain open until mid-July. This diverse participation underscores the league's appeal and its potential to become a premier international shooting event.

The Shooting League of India will feature mixed-team events across pistol (10m, 25m), rifle (10m, 50m three-positions), and shotgun (Trap & Skeet) disciplines. This format is designed to enhance the sport's appeal to a broader audience, making it more broadcast-friendly and engaging for viewers. The decision to focus on mixed-team events aims to create a more dynamic and exciting viewing experience, which is expected to draw more television viewership.

At least six teams will compete in the league, divided into two pools during the league stage. To ensure a balance between experience and emerging talent, athletes will be grouped into four tiers: Elite Champions, World Elite, National Champions, and Junior & Youth Champions. This structure aims to foster healthy competition while providing a platform for young shooters to learn from and compete alongside seasoned professionals.

NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo expressed his delight at the overwhelming response to the league. "We are truly delighted by the overwhelming response and the number of registrations we have received," he said. "It's a strong validation of our vision for the Shooting League of India. Our aim has always been to create a world-class platform that celebrates talent, promotes healthy competition, and inspires the next generation of shooters."

The SLI is designed to be more audience-friendly, with the mixed-team format ensuring shorter, more exciting matches. This format reduces pressure on individual shooters and makes the event more accessible and enjoyable for spectators. The league has garnered significant interest from the global shooting community, with numerous international shooters expressing keen interest in participating.
