In a landmark decision poised to reshape the landscape of Indian chess, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) has launched the Top National Players Stipend Scheme (TNPSS). This initiative marks the first time in Indian chess history that young talents are being directly funded through a structured national stipend. Spearheaded by AICF President Nitin Narang, the TNPSS aims to provide crucial financial assistance to promising young chess players, nurturing their skills and facilitating their participation in competitive events.

The AICF has already disbursed over Rs 42.30 lakh in the first phase of the TNPSS, directly depositing stipends ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh into the accounts of top young chess talents. The beneficiaries include 42 top-ranked players in the Under-7 to Under-19 categories, encompassing both boys and girls. These players were selected based on their outstanding performances at the national championships held last year. This initial disbursement covers the April to June 2025 quarter, with the scheme projected to continue for two years with a total outlay of over Rs 6.15 crore.

Narang emphasized that the TNPSS aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of strengthening grassroots sports infrastructure and athlete support. He stated that financial constraints have long hindered the aspirations of chess players, often forcing them to abandon their passion due to the demands of travel, training, and international competition. The TNPSS is designed to address these challenges, empowering young players to focus on honing their skills and achieving success on the chessboard.

The AICF believes that the TNPSS will also elevate the importance of national tournaments, recognizing them as a critical foundation for building a strong chess ecosystem. These tournaments serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing talent, paving the way for future champions. By providing financial support to young players, the AICF aims to encourage greater participation in these tournaments, further strengthening the talent pool.

The TNPSS is more than just a financial initiative; it represents a paradigm shift in how chess is supported and nurtured in India. It reflects a deep belief in the potential of young Indian chess players and a commitment to providing them with the resources they need to succeed. The AICF's direct investment in the future of these players will provide them with the sustained financial support necessary to transform their talent into triumph.

The All India Chess Federation's initiative promises to usher in a new era for Indian chess, fostering a generation of talented and dedicated players who will represent the country on the global stage.
