As India prepares for the crucial second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Mohammed Siraj found himself in a perplexing situation during a practice session. The fast bowler, who has been working to improve his batting, discovered his bat was broken, prompting a mix of surprise and mock frustration.

The incident occurred during India's net session as the team geared up to level the series after a defeat in the first Test. A video shared by Times of India captured the moment Siraj walked into the nets and noticed his broken bat. In a humorous reaction, he threw his hands up in the air, exclaiming, "Who broke my bat?", before bursting into laughter. This lighthearted response to the setback has been dubbed "classic Siraj" by fans, showcasing his positive attitude amidst the pressures of international cricket.

The state of India's lower-order batting has been a significant concern. In the first Test, the tail-enders failed to provide substantial support to the top order, with no batsman from No. 8 downwards reaching double digits. Siraj himself scored only three runs in the first innings and was dismissed for a golden duck in the second. Despite typically playing at No. 11, he has occasionally been pushed higher in the order, motivating him to dedicate extra time to batting practice.

While Siraj's batting is under scrutiny, his bowling performance in the first Test also drew criticism. He struggled to support Jasprit Bumrah, particularly in the first innings, where his inconsistent bowling allowed England to gain momentum. Although he bowled with more control in the second innings, he only managed to pick up two wickets in the match.

Adding to India's challenges, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to play in the second Test due to workload management. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had previously indicated that Bumrah would not participate in all five Test matches during the tour. With a short three-day gap between the second and third Tests, Bumrah is expected to miss one of the games, most likely the second.

Bumrah's potential absence places additional pressure on Mohammed Siraj, who would then be the most experienced pacer in the team. The team might consider including Arshdeep Singh or Akash Deep in the playing XI.

Despite the pressures, Siraj's ability to find humor in the situation with his broken bat reflects a positive team environment as they aim to come back strong in the second Test.
