Rishabh Pant's injury has become a major concern for the Indian cricket team during the fourth Test against England in Manchester. The incident occurred on the first day of the match when Pant was struck on his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off a delivery from England's Chris Woakes.

Pant, who was batting on 37 off 48 balls, immediately collapsed to the ground in pain. The team's physios rushed to his aid, and it was evident that he was in considerable discomfort. According to Sai Sudharsan, Pant was in "a lot of pain" and was taken to a local hospital for scans. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement confirming the injury and stating that the medical team is closely monitoring his progress.

The extent of the injury is still unknown, but there were worrying signs. When the physio removed Pant's pads, socks, and boot, there was a spot of blood and swelling on the outer part of his right foot. Every time the physio touched the bruised area, Pant reportedly screamed in agony. He was unable to put weight on his foot and needed assistance to be taken off the field. An ambulance was eventually used to transport him off the ground.

This is not the first time Pant has been injured during this series. He had previously sustained a finger injury during the third Test at Lord's, which prevented him from keeping wickets in England's second innings. If Pant is unable to continue in the current Test, Dhruv Jurel may be called upon to take his place behind the stumps.

The team management is hoping that if Pant can stand, he will be able to bat at some point in the match. However, the swelling is a cause for concern, as it could indicate a fracture or a hairline crack, which could potentially end Pant's tour. Sudharsan acknowledged that Pant's absence would be a blow to the team, but he expressed confidence that the other batters are ready to step up and take on the responsibility.

Pant's injury adds to India's growing list of injury concerns during the tour. His absence would not only weaken the team's batting lineup but also leave a void in the wicket-keeping department. The results of the scans are eagerly awaited, as they will determine the severity of the injury and Pant's availability for the remainder of the Test and potentially the series.
