England dominated the second day of the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, Manchester, significantly reducing India's lead. A formidable opening stand of 166 runs between Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley set the tone, allowing England to reach 225 for 2 by stumps, trailing India by just 133 runs.

India resumed the day at 264 for 4, but lost Ravindra Jadeja early. Contributions from Shardul Thakur (41) and Washington Sundar (27) helped push India's total to 358. Rishabh Pant, battling a fractured toe, showed resilience with a determined 54 off 75 balls. England's Ben Stokes led the bowling attack, claiming 5 for 72, his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket since 2017.

England's response was strong, with Duckett and Crawley capitalizing on the batting conditions. Duckett scored a rapid 94 off 100 balls, while Crawley contributed a solid 84 off 113 deliveries. Their partnership put India on the back foot, with the Indian bowlers struggling to make breakthroughs. Although both openers were eventually dismissed, Ollie Pope (20) and Joe Root (11) saw England to the close of play.

Earlier in the day, England's bowlers made good use of the second new ball, finding better lengths and exploiting movement to wrap up the Indian innings. Rishabh Pant's brave innings, despite his injury, was a key highlight, but India's total seemed less impressive after England's strong start. The Old Trafford crowd showed their appreciation for Pant's resilience as he battled through visible discomfort.

Ben Stokes' impressive bowling performance and the dominant opening partnership between Duckett and Crawley have given England a significant advantage. With eight wickets in hand and favorable batting conditions, England will aim to build a substantial first-innings lead. India's bowlers will need to regroup and find ways to take wickets to regain control of the match.
