Shubman Gill, the current Test captain for India, has reached a significant milestone in his burgeoning international career, completing 6000 runs across all formats of the game. The landmark was achieved on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. At just 25 years old, Gill has already established himself as a key player for India, demonstrating remarkable consistency and adaptability.

Gill's journey to 6000 international runs has been relatively swift, arriving in 113 international matches and 145 innings. His current average across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is stands at an impressive 46.51, with a total of 18 centuries. In Test cricket, he has scored 2647 runs with 9 centuries. His preferred format is ODIs, where he has amassed 2775 runs in just 55 innings, averaging 59.04. Gill is also one of the few Indian cricketers to have scored a century in all three formats, highlighting his versatility and ability to perform under different conditions.

In the recent series against England, Gill showcased exceptional form, scoring 754 runs at an average of 83.78, including four centuries. This performance places him second on the list of most runs scored by an Indian in a Test series, only behind Sunil Gavaskar's 774 runs against the West Indies in 1971. Gill's performance surpassed Gavaskar's captaincy mark for most runs in a series.

Gill made his Test debut on December 26, 2020, in the Border–Gavaskar Trophy. He has been a consistent performer in Test cricket, contributing significantly to India's success, including a crucial 91-run innings in the fourth Test at the Gabba during the 2020-21 series against Australia. In ODIs, Gill holds the record for being the fastest to reach 2000 runs in 38 innings and 2500 runs in 50 innings. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODIs, achieving the feat at the age of 23. In January 2023, he scored 208 runs against New Zealand, becoming the fifth Indian to hit a double century in ODIs.

As a leader, Gill has already tasted success, captaining India to victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. His leadership qualities, combined with his batting prowess, make him a vital asset to the Indian team.

Looking ahead, Gill aims to maintain his form in upcoming series and global tournaments. With his current trajectory, his 6000 international runs could be just the beginning of an extraordinary and long lasting legacy.
