Manhas Leads BCCI as President; New Selectors Bring Fresh Perspectives to Indian Cricket Team.

Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Mumbai on September 28, 2025. The 45-year-old former Delhi captain succeeds Roger Binny, who stepped down after turning 70. Manhas's appointment marks him as the 37th president of the board.

Manhas, a seasoned domestic cricketer, was a consensus candidate following an informal meeting of BCCI's key decision-makers. Reacting to his appointment, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hailed the development as "a providential Sunday".

The AGM also confirmed other key appointments. Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia were re-elected as vice-president and secretary, respectively. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia replaced Rohan Gauns Desai as joint secretary, while Raghuram Bhat was elected as treasurer.

Manhas is the third consecutive cricketer to hold the post, following Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny. He inherits the responsibility of guiding Indian cricket's administration with a vision that balances growth, performance, and innovation.

Born on October 12, 1979, in Jammu and Kashmir, Manhas established himself as a stalwart of Indian domestic cricket, even though he never played for the national team. Known for his versatility, Manhas was a right-handed batsman, could bowl occasional off-spin, and even stepped in as a wicketkeeper when required. Manhas featured in 157 First-Class, 130 List A and 55 IPL matches between 1997-98 and 2016-17. He has an impressive tally of 9714 first class runs with 27 centuries to go with 4126 runs in List A matches. Manhas played for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

In addition to Manhas's appointment, the BCCI also announced changes to the men's selection committee, with former bowlers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha joining the panel. They will join Ajit Agarkar, who remains the chairman of selectors, Shiv Sundar Das, and Ajay Ratra. Singh and Ojha replace S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee.

RP Singh played for India in 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is from 2005-11, picking up 124 wickets and winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2007. Ojha, a left-arm spinner, represented India from 2008 to 2013 in 24 Tests and 18 ODIs.

The women’s selection committee will include chairperson Amita Sharma, Jaya Sharma, Sulakshana Malik, and Sravanthi Naidu, alongside Shyama Dey. S Sharath, previously a part of the selection panel, is the chairperson of the junior cricket committee. Harvinder Sodhi, Pathik Patel, Krishna Mohan and Ranadeb Bose are also members.

The AGM also saw Jaydev Shah, former Saurashtra captain, added to the BCCI's Apex Council, replacing Khairul Jamal Majumdar. Majumdar will now be a part of the two-man IPL Governing Council, alongside Arun Dhumal.

The audited accounts for the financial year 2024-25 were passed and adopted by the General Body, and the Annual Budget of 2025-26 was approved.
