Euro 2028 Kicks Off: England's Journey Starts at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium with High Hopes.

England is set to commence its Euro 2028 campaign at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, marking a significant moment for the venue and the national team. This announcement follows the official launch of the tournament, which will be co-hosted across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Assuming England qualifies, their first match will take place at the Etihad on Saturday, June 10, 2028. The team is then scheduled to play their remaining group matches at Wembley Stadium. Should England win Group B, their last-16 match would be held at St James' Park in Newcastle. A second-place finish in the group would see them start the knockout stage at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The selection of the Etihad Stadium to host the opening match is a notable decision, considering that the last England men's game held there was in May 2016, a 2-1 victory over Turkey in a friendly. The stadium is expected to host five matches in total during Euro 2028 and have over 300,000 tickets on sale for the matches. Besides the opening match, the ground will host games from four different groups and a last-16 game.

The Euro 2028 tournament will be held across nine stadiums in England, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. The opening game of the tournament will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday, June 9, 2028. Wembley Stadium is set to host the semi-finals and the final, with the final taking place on Sunday, July 9, with a 5pm kick-off time. This earlier start time, also planned for future Champions League finals, is intended to be more appealing to families and a broader audience. The Republic of Ireland is slated to play their first game at the Dublin Arena, while Scotland would play theirs at Hampden Park.

While all four host nations will participate in the qualifying tournament, UEFA has reserved two spots for the highest-ranked host nations that fail to qualify automatically.

The launch event for Euro 2028 took place in Piccadilly Circus. The event faced disruption from pro-Palestine demonstrators who called for Israel's exclusion from international football.

The Football Association has pledged that the UK and Ireland will host the "best ever" European Championship. Organizers anticipate that three million tickets will be available for the tournament.
