The Toronto Sceptres edged out a 2-1 victory against the Montreal Victoire at the Bell Centre on Saturday, December 27, 2025. This Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) matchup was the second meeting between the two teams at the Bell Centre.
Elaine Chuli, in her first start against her former team, the Montreal Victoire, proved to be a key factor in the Sceptres' win, stopping 29 shots. Chuli had spent her first two years in the league as the Victoire's backup goaltender. Ann-Renée Desbiens, the Victoire's goalie, made 23 saves.
The Sceptres were missing key defenders Renata Fast, the 2025 PWHL Defender of the Year, and Allie Munroe, both due to lower-body injuries. Despite these absences, Toronto secured their first victory in three games against Montreal.
Jesse Compher opened the scoring for Toronto with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. Compher's goal was her third of the season. In the second period, Abby Roque, assisted by Kaitlin Willoughby, tied the game for Montreal. Roque's goal was also her third of the season. Daryl Watts then regained the lead for Toronto, scoring on a two-on-one opportunity after capitalizing on a turnover. Watts shot the puck past Desbiens.
Montreal's power play struggled, failing to score in four consecutive games, going 0-for-3 in this game and 0-for-13 overall during that stretch. Late in the second period, Laura Stacey's shot hit the post behind Chuli, but was cleared off the line by Kali Flanagan.
With this win, the Toronto Sceptres moved into sole possession of second place in the PWHL. The Victoire pulled their goalie with over two minutes left in the game, but were unable to score the equalizer.
The game was the third matchup of the season and the month between the two teams. The Sceptres will host the Minnesota Frost on December 30 for their last game of 2025. The Victoire will face the New York Sirens on January 2. The season series will continue in Montreal on February 26.
The game was broadcast on CBC and Radio-Canada in Canada and on the PWHL YouTube Channel and thepwhl.com for viewers outside of Canada.
