The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured the services of goaltender Anthony Stolarz for the long term, announcing a four-year contract extension with an average annual value of $3.75 million. The deal, totaling $15 million, ensures Stolarz will remain in Toronto through the 2028-29 season.

This extension comes after Stolarz's impressive first season with the Maple Leafs, where he played a career-high 34 games and recorded a 21-8-3 record. The 31-year-old also posted a league-leading .926 save percentage and a 2.14 goals-against average. His stellar performance placed him fifth in Vezina Trophy voting.

Stolarz's new contract reflects his emergence as a reliable starting goaltender. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs, he served as a backup for the Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers. Toronto signed him as a free agent in 2024 to a two-year deal with a $2.5 million cap hit. His new $3.75 million cap hit will rank 27th among NHL goalies in the 2026-27 season.

The contract extension is a key move for Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Joseph Woll's availability. Woll is currently on leave to attend to a personal family matter, with no confirmed date for his return. In Woll's absence, Stolarz is expected to take on the primary goaltending duties for the Leafs. The Maple Leafs also have Joseph Woll under contract at a $3.67-million cap hit through the 2027-28 season.

Throughout his eight-year NHL career, Stolarz has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He has a career .917 save percentage and a 2.55 goals-against average in 142 regular season games. Stolarz also played in six Stanley Cup Playoff games, going 4-2 before the Leafs were eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the second round.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to begin their season on October 8 against the Montreal Canadiens.
