BCCI Warns Naqvi After Trophy Mishap: ACC Tenure Under Threat Due to Management Failure.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly issued a stern warning to Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, following a controversial incident after the Asia Cup 2025 final. The incident involved the Asia Cup trophy and the post-match presentation ceremony.

Following India's victory in the Asia Cup final, a controversy erupted when Mohsin Naqvi allegedly took the trophy to his hotel room instead of handing it over to the winning team. Reports indicate that the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation. Suryakumar Yadav stated that India was denied the chance to celebrate properly. Videos surfaced showing an ACC official taking the trophy away, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that it was taken to Naqvi's hotel.

At the ACC meeting on Tuesday, September 30, the BCCI raised strong objections and grilled Naqvi for his role in the trophy fiasco. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla questioned Naqvi for not handing the trophy to the Indian team, reminding him that the trophy belongs to the ACC, not to him personally. This led to a heated argument between the BCCI and Naqvi.

The BCCI is reportedly unhappy with Naqvi's actions and is planning to take action to remove him from his position as ACC chair at the ICC AGM in November. Sources within the BCCI have called Naqvi's act of taking the trophy to his hotel "childish and unacceptable". The BCCI is reportedly planning to launch a campaign to remove Naqvi from his position.

Furthermore, Naqvi reportedly refused to congratulate the Indian team for their victory during the meeting, only doing so after being pressed by BCCI representative Ashish Shelar. The BCCI insisted that the trophy be handed over to them, even offering to collect it from the ACC office. However, Naqvi refused, stating that the matter needed further discussion.

The BCCI views Naqvi's actions as a breach of protocol and is determined to ensure that the trophy is handed over to the Indian team in a proper manner. They are also seeking to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
