Kraken's Kakko Out with Injury; Gaudreau Returns to Lineup Following Activation from Injured Reserve

Seattle, WA – The Seattle Kraken have announced a series of roster moves ahead of their game against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Forward Kaapo Kakko has been placed on injured reserve (IR), while forward Frederick Gaudreau has been activated off IR.

Kakko's placement on IR is a significant setback for the team, as he had only recently returned to the lineup after recovering from a broken hand sustained during the preseason. He made his season debut on November 1st and has played in just seven games. In Thursday's game against the Winnipeg Jets, Kakko scored his first goal of the season but exited the game shortly after, having played only 3:51. The team has announced that Kakko is week to week with a lower-body injury.

This is a tough blow for Kakko, who also missed the majority of the beginning of the season. Kakko joins Jared McCann and Joey Daccord on IR, adding to the list of key players the Kraken are currently without. The Kraken can ill afford to lose any more players from their top six forwards or their starting goaltender.

In a corresponding move, Frederick Gaudreau has been activated from injured reserve. Gaudreau's return provides a boost to the Kraken's lineup. The center had been sidelined with an upper-body injury he sustained on October 16th in a game against the Ottawa Senators. Prior to the injury, Gaudreau played in four games for the Kraken after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. He recorded one assist in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Gaudreau's return is expected to bolster the Kraken's bottom six, providing a veteran presence to a line that has recently featured younger players such as Ben Meyers, Tye Kartye, and Ryan Winterton. His experience could be invaluable in guiding these younger players. Despite being deemed a game-time decision, Gaudreau is expected to play against San Jose, marking his return after a 13-game absence. This season, he has one assist, three shots on goal, five blocked shots, and two hits in four games.

The Kraken have been struggling with scoring goals, ranking 30th in the league. Gaudreau's return could provide a boost to the team's offensive output.

Other transactions around the league include Zach Hyman being activated from long-term injured reserve by the Edmonton Oilers, and Boone Jenner being placed on injured reserve by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
