India's 2026 Sports Scene: Get Ready for a Year of Thrilling World-Class Competitions Hosted on Home Turf.

India is gearing up for a spectacular year of sports in 2026, with a diverse calendar featuring world-class events across various disciplines. From cricket to athletics, badminton to weightlifting, the nation will host and participate in several major international tournaments, offering Indian sports fans a thrilling year of action.

Cricket will undoubtedly be a major highlight, with India co-hosting the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in February and March. This highly anticipated tournament, shared with Sri Lanka, is expected to draw huge crowds and generate immense excitement across the country. In addition to the Men's T20 World Cup, India will also host the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup in January. Other cricket events include the Women's Premier League in January and India tours.

Badminton enthusiasts can look forward to the BWF World Championships in New Delhi in August, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the sport. The India Open badminton Super 750 in New Delhi will also take place in January, along with the India International Challenge badminton tournament in Raipur in October, the Syed Modi India International Super 300 in Lucknow in November, and the Guwahati and Odisha Masters in December.

In athletics, Bhubaneswar will host India’s first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour Silver-level meet in August, marking an upgrade from the bronze level meet held in 2025. The domestic athletics calendar includes the National Cross-Country Championships in Ranchi in January and the National Junior Athletics Championships in Chennai in October. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will also host the First National Indoor Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar in March. The 65th National Open Athletics Championships will be held in New Delhi in October. A new 16-part regional series, the Indian Athletics Series, will run from April to September to boost grassroots participation.

Weightlifting will also take center stage as Ahmedabad hosts the Asian Weightlifting Championships in April. This will be the second time India has hosted the continental weightlifting meet, and the first time since 1982.

Tennis will feature the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Bengaluru in February. Table tennis will be highlighted by the WTT Star Contender in Chennai.

Field hockey will also have a prominent place with the Hockey India League in Chennai, Ranchi, and Bhubaneswar in January.

Moreover, Indian athletes will be participating in major international events such as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, in July and the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September.

With such a diverse and exciting lineup of events, 2026 promises to be a landmark year for sports in India, showcasing the country's growing prominence as a global sporting hub.
