The Ottawa Senators have finalized their roster for the 2025-26 season, making several moves ahead of the October 6th deadline. A notable decision saw defenseman Carter Yakemchuk, the team's 2024 first-round pick, being assigned to the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Yakemchuk's demotion comes after two impressive rookie camp showings. Despite the strong showing, the Senators opted to have him start his professional career in the AHL.
In addition to Yakemchuk, forwards Jan Jenik, Hayden Hodgson, and Arthur Kaliyev, defenseman Lassi Thomson, and goaltender Mads Sogaard have also been loaned to Belleville after clearing waivers.
The Senators also announced that forward Drake Batherson and defenseman Tyler Kleven have been placed on injured reserve. Both players are currently dealing with lower-body injuries, although they have been skating. Batherson's absence, even short-term, could impact the team's offensive chemistry and may require line shuffles.
These moves leave the Ottawa Senators with 23 players on their active roster.
The confirmed 23-man roster is as follows:
Left Wingers: Brady Tkachuk, David Perron, Ridly Greig, Nick Cousins Centers: Tim Stutzle, Dylan Cozens, Shane Pinto, Lars Eller Right Wingers: Claude Giroux, Fabian Zetterlund, Michael Amadio, Olle Lycksell, Kurtis MacDermid Left Defense: Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot, Donovan Sebrango Right Defense: Artem Zub, Nick Jensen, Nikolas Matinpalo, Jordan Spence Goaltenders: Linus Ullmark, Leevi Merilainen Injured Reserve: Drake Batherson, Tyler Kleven
With Batherson and Kleven expected to return in the near future, some roster adjustments will likely be necessary. Olle Lycksell, who cleared waivers, provides the Senators with roster flexibility, as he can be sent down to the AHL when Batherson is ready to return.
Goaltending appears stable with Linus Ullmark as the starter, backed by Leevi Merilainen.
The Ottawa Senators are set to begin their 2025-26 regular season on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
