Harry Kane has signaled his commitment to Bayern Munich, indicating a potential cooling of interest in a Premier League return. The England captain, currently under contract with the Bundesliga giants until the summer of 2027, has opened the door to discussions regarding a contract extension, stating he is "fully all in" with Bayern.
Kane's stance marks a shift from previous expectations. When he initially moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 for a reported £86.4 million, it was widely speculated that he would eventually return to England to pursue Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League scoring record. Kane needs 48 goals to break the record.
However, after experiencing life in Germany and achieving his first career silverware with Bayern's Bundesliga title last season, Kane's perspective appears to have evolved. "In terms of the Premier League, I don't know," Kane said. "If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back. Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn't say I would never go back".
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has also hinted at a possible contract extension for Kane, stating that both the club and Kane's representatives "can easily imagine continuing together beyond the end of the current contract". Freund emphasized Kane's comfort in Munich, adding, "Harry feels very comfortable in Munich, with the team and his family. That's why we hope he'll stay in Munich for a few more years". He also stated, "We're probably witnessing the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been,".
Kane's focus remains on the present and future with Bayern. "In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that," he said. "I spoke openly a couple of weeks ago that I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation". He added, "Obviously it depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together. Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else".
Kane's impressive form this season further solidifies his commitment. He has already scored 19 goals for club and country. Overall, he has 103 goals in 106 appearances for Bayern.
Despite Kane's contentment in Germany, speculation about a potential return to the Premier League has persisted, fueled by reports of a release clause in his contract. Reports indicate a release clause of £56.7 million that could be triggered next summer. Tottenham reportedly has a first-refusal clause in place, giving them the opportunity to bring Kane back to North London if he decides to leave Germany.
However, with Kane signaling his long-term commitment to Bayern, a Premier League return appears increasingly unlikely. As Kane stated, "I am calm, I love the manager at Bayern and as long we are improving and I am improving then I am happy to see what we can achieve".
