Golden Knights and Eichel Close to Finalizing 8-Year Extension

Vegas Golden Knights fans could soon have more reason to celebrate as reports indicate that the team and star center Jack Eichel are nearing an agreement on an 8-year contract extension. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, both parties are focused on finalizing the long-term pact.

Eichel, who is entering the final year of his current 8-year, $80 million contract signed with the Buffalo Sabres in 2017, is reportedly keen on remaining in Vegas. The Golden Knights acquired Eichel in a trade with Buffalo in 2021.

The 28-year-old is coming off a career season, where he recorded a personal best of 94 points. His outstanding performance also placed him fifth in both Hart Trophy and Selke Trophy voting. Eichel played a crucial role in the Golden Knights' Stanley Cup victory in 2023, leading the league with 26 points in 22 playoff games.

The potential extension would solidify Eichel's position as a cornerstone player for the Golden Knights for years to come. The team has already made a significant addition by acquiring Mitch Marner, whose contract has an average annual value of $12 million, making him the highest-paid player on the team. It is expected that Eichel's new deal will exceed Marner's average annual value.

Frank Seravalli from Bleacher Report anticipates that a deal will be reached before the Golden Knights' season opener against the Los Angeles Kings. Securing Eichel long-term would eliminate any distractions related to contract negotiations and further solidify the connection between Eichel and Marner, boosting the team's chances of contending for another Stanley Cup.

While the specifics of the contract are still under wraps, it's believed that the recent contracts signed by Kirill Kaprizov and Connor McDavid are not significantly influencing the negotiations between Eichel and the Golden Knights.
