The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Noah Philp on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) and recalled winger Connor Clattenburg from the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League (AHL). The announcement came Friday night as the Oilers prepared for their Saturday night game against the Florida Panthers.
Noah Philp's placement on LTIR suggests the injury is significant, requiring a minimum absence of 10 games and 24 days. While the team has not disclosed the specific nature of the injury, it is known that Philp suffered an upper-body injury earlier in the week. Prior to the injury, Philp played in 15 games this season, recording two goals and one assist while averaging 10:02 of ice time per night.
In response to Philp's injury, the Oilers have recalled Connor Clattenburg from their AHL affiliate. Clattenburg, a 20-year-old, was drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round (160th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. He is known for his physical style of play. In 15 games with the Bakersfield Condors this season, Clattenburg has one goal, one assist, and 59 penalty minutes.
Before turning pro, Clattenburg played for the Flint Firebirds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he had 16 goals and 19 assists with 108 penalty minutes in 46 games.
Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer has described Clattenburg as a player who "hits everything that moves" and brings a "loud game". With the Oilers looking to add more energy and physicality to their lineup, Clattenburg's recall could provide a boost.
Clattenburg's contract with the Oilers is a three-year deal with an annual cap hit of $828,333. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2027-28 season. Standing at 6'2" and weighing 205 pounds, the right-shooting winger could make his NHL debut against the Florida Panthers.
The Oilers are currently on a seven-game road trip and are looking to improve their consistency. The addition of Clattenburg could provide a spark as they face the Panthers in a rematch of the previous Stanley Cup series.
