Glenn McGrath's Critique: Kohli and Sharma's Perth Performance Exposed Their Weaknesses in Challenging Conditions.

Glenn McGrath has offered a stark assessment of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's performance in the recent ODI match in Perth, suggesting that the two Indian greats were "found out" due to a lack of recent match practice and the challenging conditions.

McGrath's comments came after India's defeat in the first ODI against Australia. Rohit Sharma scored 8 runs, while Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck. McGrath pointed out that both players were returning to international cricket after a break since the Champions Trophy final. He believes the pace and bounce of the Perth pitch exposed their lack of preparation. "There was a lot of talk going into the match about the two greats, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They've not had a lot of cricket under their belt. And I think they got found out a little bit on a pitch that has got a Little bit more pace and a lot more bounce than what they're used to back in India," McGrath said.

This isn't the first time McGrath has commented on Kohli's performances in Australia. In November 2024, McGrath suggested that Kohli was under pressure ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and that the Australian team should capitalize on his emotional nature. He stated that if the Aussies "go hard at him, if he gets in the fight with emotions, there's a bit of chat out there, who knows he might sort of lift... But I think he's probably under pressure a little bit, and if he has a couple of low scores to start with, he could really feel it".

McGrath also spoke on KL Rahul's versatility and his ever-changing batting position within the Indian team. He noted the difficulties of adapting to different roles, saying, "They've sort of moved him around. I think he's nearly batted at all 11 positions at some stage. It must be tough for him to adapt". Despite this, McGrath acknowledged Rahul's adaptability and his ability to perform in tough conditions. In the first ODI in Perth, Rahul top-scored for India with 38 runs while batting at No. 6.

Looking ahead, Kohli and Sharma will be aiming to bounce back in the second ODI in Adelaide on October 23, 2025. The Indian team will need their experienced players to perform if they are to level the series against Australia.
