Lautaro Martínez's brace ensures Inter Milan stays close to the top in the European football title race.

Lautaro Martínez's two goals propelled Inter Milan to a 2-0 victory over Pisa, keeping them within striking distance of the Serie A leaders. The Argentinian striker's brace secured a crucial win for Inter, who are looking to bounce back after a recent defeat in the Champions League and a derby loss to AC Milan.

Inter, managed by Cristian Chivu, currently sit third in the Serie A standings with 27 points, level with Roma. However, AC Milan leads the pack with 28 points following their 1-0 victory against Lazio. The pressure is on as Roma faced Napoli, with a win potentially allowing them to overtake both Inter and Milan.

Martínez's first goal came in the 69th minute when he powerfully converted a low cross from Pio Esposito. With just seven minutes remaining, Martínez sealed the victory by tapping in a second goal from close range. These goals mark his tenth in all competitions. After the match, Martínez told DAZN that he was happy because they won and that is what they wanted after two defeats. He added that he works for the team, himself, and his family, and he leaves the talk to others. He hopes it continues, as he still has plenty of time on his contract, is happy there, and the fans love him. He concluded that the team comes before everything else.

The match against Pisa was far from straightforward for Inter. Pisa, playing at their home ground, Arena Garibaldi, proved to be a tough opponent. Despite sitting in the bottom three of the league table, they created several opportunities, especially in the first half, testing Inter's defense. Inter's overall performance was described as sluggish, failing to impress despite the win.

Going into the match, Inter were looking to recover from a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid and a previous derby loss to AC Milan. The win against Pisa will provide a welcome boost to morale, though the team will need to improve their performances to maintain a strong challenge for the Serie A title.

Other Serie A action saw Atalanta face Fiorentina. Inter's Lautaro Martinez now has six goals in 13 Serie A matches this season, in addition to four goals in four appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
