Agni Dev Chopra, son of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has refuted reports that he registered for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 auction, labeling them as "fake and misleading". The speculation arose after a player list on the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) official website included his name as a US associate player. The list reportedly showed Agni Dev as a US citizen with a base price of PKR 600,000.
Addressing the rumors, Agni Dev took to Instagram to clarify that he has no association with the Pakistan-based T20 league. In his statement, which was also shared by his mother Anupama Chopra, he stated, "Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation".
Agni Dev's denial has gained traction across both cricket and cinema circles. The 27-year-old cricketer's name appearing on the PSL auction list sparked debate, especially considering his Indian roots, although he was listed as a US citizen. Agni Dev was born in Detroit, Michigan, and holds an American passport, making him eligible to represent USA cricket.
Prior to focusing on his cricket career in the United States, Agni Dev played Indian domestic cricket until 2025. He has participated in major tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Representing Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy Plate division during the 2023-24 season, he distinguished himself as the tournament's highest run-scorer. Notably, he achieved a historic feat by becoming the first cricketer in first-class history to score centuries in each of his first four matches.
Despite his past success in Indian domestic cricket, Agni Dev is now focused on his future in the United States. His statement denying involvement in the PSL underscores his commitment to his cricketing journey in the USA.
