Jamaica's World Cup Qualifying Dominance: Bermuda Victory and Curacao Draw Secure Group Leadership

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica's "Reggae Boyz" seized the Group B lead in the CONCACAF 2026 World Cup qualifying round after a dominant 4-0 victory over Bermuda. The match, played on Tuesday, saw Jamaica leapfrog Curacao in the standings.

Jamaica now sits atop Group B with nine points, boasting a 3-1 record. Bermuda, with no wins, is eliminated from World Cup contention after their fourth consecutive loss.

The scoring began with an own goal by Bermuda's Dante Leverock in the 24th minute. Shortly after, Bobby De Cordova-Reid added to the lead in the 26th minute, followed by Shamar Nicholson in the 35th minute. Dujuan Richards sealed the victory with a final goal in the 76th minute.

Jamaica's coach, Steve McLaren, is guiding the team towards potentially securing a spot at the World Cup for only the second time, with their first appearance being in 1998. A victory against Curacao on November 18th could secure qualification.

Meanwhile, Curacao was held to a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago. Kenji Gorre put Curacao ahead in the 19th minute with a right-footed shot. However, Tyrese Spicer equalized for Trinidad and Tobago in the 58th minute.

With this result, Curacao now has eight points in Group B. Trinidad and Tobago remains in third place with five points.

The draw between Curacao and Trinidad and Tobago helped Jamaica move to the top of the group. The top team in each of the three groups will qualify directly for the FIFA World Cup 2026, joining hosts Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The two best runners-up will have an opportunity to represent CONCACAF in the FIFA Play-off Tournament.

Looking ahead, Jamaica will face Curacao and Trinidad and Tobago in their remaining two matches next month. For Bermuda, they have been eliminated from contention after the loss.
