David Beckham has officially been awarded a knighthood by King Charles III, a recognition celebrated for his outstanding contributions to both the world of sports and his extensive charitable work. The announcement, made as part of the King's Birthday Honours, marks a significant moment in Beckham's career, elevating him to the esteemed rank of "Sir David Beckham."

Beckham, the former England football captain, has expressed profound gratitude for the honor, stating it was a "truly humbling" experience. Growing up in East London, he never imagined receiving such an accolade. He acknowledged the influence of his patriotic parents and grandparents. This knighthood arrives after what has been described as a decade-long wait. While he received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 2003, reports suggest that concerns raised by HM Revenue and Customs regarding his involvement in an alleged tax avoidance scheme initially delayed the knighthood. These issues were reportedly resolved in 2021, paving the way for this recent recognition.

Throughout his illustrious career, Beckham played for some of the world's most prominent football clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. He made 115 appearances for England's national team, captaining the squad 59 times, achievements that solidify his status as a footballing legend. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Beckham has been recognized for his extensive charitable work, particularly his long-standing partnership with UNICEF, where he has served as a goodwill ambassador since 2005. He also established the 7 Fund, aimed at supporting vulnerable children worldwide. His work with Malaria No More, an organization dedicated to eradicating the disease, further demonstrates his commitment to humanitarian causes.

With David Beckham's knighthood, his wife, Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girls star and successful fashion designer, will now be known as Lady Beckham. The investiture ceremony, where Beckham will formally receive the knighthood, is set to take place at a later date. Others who were also honored include actor Gary Oldman and The Who singer Roger Daltrey, who have both been knighted as well, and Luke Littler, who was awarded with an MBE for services to darts.
